France's new happiness law is genius

If you’re a parent, you may be concerned that your child is using their phone too much in school. After all, Fortnite is like children’s cocaine, and texting is stunting social skills.

Thankfully, French parents at least can breathe a sigh of relief, because President Macron has just banned smartphones in school.

While a general in-school ban has been in place since 2010, the new legislature includes meals and breaks, too. This means that from the moment he’s dropped off to the moment he hops back in his mom’s Citroen, little Faustin will have to rely on his classmates for entertainment.

Though the ban only applies to students under 15, it will still help 12 million schoolchildren develop critical social and conversational skills they’ll be using in their first relationships, the college application process, and beyond.

If there’s a downside to this law, it’s unapparent to me. It’s win-win-win:

  1. Educators will see a rise in focus and attention
  2. Children will have improved relationships
  3. Parents will see lower depression rates in their children

Vive la liberté.
